Operating Principle of Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps:
In liquid ring pumps, an eccentrically mounted impeller rotates in a water-filled housing. Through centrifugal force, a liquid ring forms, creating chambers with variable volume between the blades. When the chambers enlarge, gas is drawn in; when they decrease, gas is compressed and expelled.
Technical Advantages of Rietschle Liquid Ring Pumps:
- ✓ Robust and Reliable - simple construction, low wear
- ✓ Moisture Insensitive - ideal for wet and moist gases

- ✓ Isothermal Compression - constant temperature through water cooling
- ✓ Explosion-proof - no spark formation, ideal for flammable gases
- ✓ Low Maintenance - no valves, no vanes to replace
- ✓ Long Service Life - proven technology for over 100 years
- ✓ Versatile Application - for various gas compositions
When Liquid Ring Pumps Instead of Rotary Vane Pumps?
| Criterion | Liquid Ring Pump | Rotary Vane Pump |
|---|---|---|
| Wet Gases | ✓ Ideally suited | ✗ Problematic (oil emulsion) |
| Dusty Gases | ✓ Very good (flushing) | ✗ Vane wear |
| Aggressive Gases | ✓ Possible with stainless steel | ○ Conditionally possible |
| Ultimate Vacuum | ○ 33 mbar (temperature dependent) | ✓ Down to 0.1 mbar |
| Maintenance | ✓ Very low maintenance | ○ Regular oil changes |
| Operating Costs | ○ Water consumption | ○ Oil consumption |
| Explosion Protection | ✓ Non-sparking | ○ ATEX version needed |
